Mitsui E&S Machinery Co., Ltd. (MES-M) announced the successful completion and power generation verification of a hydrogen fuel cell power pack (FCPP), developed as a critical power system for the Rubber-Tired-Gantry crane (tradename: Transtainer).
What is a fuel cell power module?
The fuel cell power module combines the fuel cell stack, as well as the subsystems for the hydrogen and air supplies, the cooling circuit, and current supply in one compact module. With its impressive service life, robust design, and performance class, the product is designed to cope with commercial vehicles’ applications.
What is a fuel cell system?
The system comprises a fuel cell stack and the fuel cell submodules, such as those for hydrogen and air, which are required for the stack to operate. Highly integrated system solution for fuel cell-electric commercial vehicles
Why do fuel cell PowerPacks have a stack structure?
A key material used in the stack is MEA (Membrane Electrode Assembly). This enables high energy output and durability for our fuel cell Powerpack. And thanks to the design of the stack structure, which maintains even energy output among cells, high energy output of the fuel cell Powerpack remains stable during flight.
Where is the fuel cell stack located?
The fuel cell stack, together with the required balance of plant, is located in a large, purpose-built container (13 x 5 x 4.4m). Project-specific electrical components (transformers, converters and DC bus) designed to protect the fuel cell from potentially harmful disturbances on the power grid, are situated in a standard 20-ft container.
How much does the fuel cell stack weigh?
The total weight of the containers is 110t, but both weight and volume could be significantly reduced in future fully integrated systems. During its first year in operation, the fuel cell stack showed no signs of degradation, indicating that the measures taken to protect the fuel cells were appropriate.
